The Capability List, By Symptom

Cars rarely announce their problems by part name, so the list works better by complaint. Noise or softness at the brake pedal goes to brake repair. A car that will not wake up goes to no-start diagnostics. Repeated jump starts, dimming lights, or a battery lamp go to battery and charging. Warning lights, strange sounds, drips, and everything unexplained goes to diagnostics. And the philosophy of the whole operation lives at mobile auto repair.

Behind those front doors, the everyday work: alternators and starters, thermostats and water pumps, heater and radiator hoses, tensioners with their belts, coils with their plugs, oxygen sensors and their many cousins, filters, wipers, bulb and fuse chases, and oil services where the inspection is the point and the oil change is the excuse.

Cooling System Work, a Local Priority

Chattanooga summers put cooling systems on trial. Valley heat, ridge climbs, and stop-and-go on the interstates through town gang up on any weak link: a tired water pump, a hose soft with age, a fan that only half commits. Cooling failures also carry the harshest penalty in the trade, because an overheated aluminum engine writes checks no radiator was worth. So cooling inspection rides along with most visits here by default. Pressure tests find the leaks before July does, coolant condition gets checked against its actual chemistry, and the fan circuits get exercised rather than assumed.

Maintenance on a Dealership Schedule

Factory maintenance schedules are the one dealership document written by engineers instead of marketers, and following them is cheaper than any repair this site describes. Your car's schedule stays on file after the first visit, what is due gets flagged against what is merely upsold, and you hear plainly when a service on the dealer's menu is unnecessary. Cabin filters are genuinely worth doing in this pollen-heavy valley. Neither is brake fluid in a city with this much elevation. Transmission flushes on a healthy unit at forty thousand miles usually are.

That sorting, what is real and what is menu-padding, might be the most valuable service on the list. The maintenance visit costs what it costs; knowing what to decline is free.

Fleet and work-truck owners get the same list on a standing schedule: vans serviced in the yard before routes start, records kept per vehicle, and problems caught while they are still cheap. A work truck in a shop is payroll standing still, which is the whole argument for a mechanic who comes to the yard.
